In an attempt to grasp the real, daily activities of life, I am starting a web journal. If nothing else, it may serve to make life real for our children as they grow up and head off in their various directions. If you have discovered us, perhaps you will enjoy living the farm life vicariously with its ups and downs, adventures and abnormalities.
Yesterday, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, was a day to catch up. The Big Guy and Matthew fixed the four-wheeler (new spark plug) and Terra-gator (faulty brakes). It was still too wet to do any field work or pick up leaves in the yard.
After lunch, the Big Guy offered to film a musical Grace had written and prepared in October. The evening of the original show, Rachael got clipped in the mouth with a wooden fence they were using as a prop. The show did not go on, but the Big Guy promised we would film it to share with family at Christmas.
We filmed 5 scenes—as far as intermission—then went outside to choose a place for this year’s Christmas picture. As we visited with Grace’s calf, Falcon, over the fence, the Big Guy spied the old trees in our pasture that have grown through a 1900’s hay baler. We realized the sun would be setting soon. Everyone jumped into matching shirts and we got the picture(s) taken! Phew.
The Big Guy went deer hunting (to no avail—yet) while I finished folding the day's laundry and put away Thanksgiving decorations.
After supper Grace and I ran into town for some household supplies. When we got home, the little girls were already in bed. I tucked in Rachael. Laura was still awake, decorating her room with fuzzy red yarn(?!). After prayers and before a hug and kiss, she showed me a slight bruise on her cheek. “We were playing ‘wild children’ while you were gone, Mommy, and I hit my face on the sofa.” So ends the day.
